It's a common question that works to slow down adoption of new technology: Will the technology be adopted and become standard? In the case of WiMAX wireless networks [1], this week brought us closer to "yes." The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has adopted WiMAX as part of its 3G standards--an adoption that should make getting ready for WiMAX [2] much more a strategy, and much less a gamble. The new high-speed, high-power wireless networking technology has already begun building steam in the market [3], and this news should make it pick up speed toward broad acceptance.
