SAAS from Jamcracker and XO

We hear it often--computers and the Internet level the playing field between large and small companies. The actual leveling, though, can be difficult when it involves actually buying the software to make it so. Now, software as a service (SAAS) can deliver on the promise, giving smaller businesses the possibility of getting the functions they need without having to pay for the full purchase, care, and feeding of enterprise software. The two-step rollout Jamcracker and XO will follow will bring access to software such as Blackberry enterprise, Microsoft Exchange Server and Sharepoint Server, and McAfee Total Protection for Small Business in the first stage, with added-value software and services to follow in the second.

Do carrier attacks mean enterprise hacks?

At the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, mobile carriers reported on a growing number of attacks against their wireless devices, leading to speculation that a rise in attacks against wireless-enabled enterprise customers won't be far behind. According to a McAfee report, the number of carriers spending more than $200,000 on new security measures in 2006 increased by 100 percent from the number spending that amount on new measures in 2005. Unfortunately for the carriers, not only have attacks increased, but customer dissatisfaction is listed as the most common negative side-effect from new security measures.

Vendors collaborate on securing mobile devices

Adding those new mobile devices and providing greater wireless access to data is the easy part for tech organizations. The hard part comes in securing both access to the device and to networks and data. A collaborative effort by McAfee, maker of intrusion detection and security risk management software, and email services provider Good Technology could make the job a whole lot easier. The two vendors have partnered up to provide McAfee's virus scanning application to wireless phones via Good's services. That means IT managers can ensure that virus protection can be managed remotely without having the devices brought in for security checks. The vendors say it's all about treating mobile network access just like today's desktop landscape. Article
